Nixon joined the reception and planned stops include finance chiefs Sinclair Weeks and the Ohio finance committee as Ike signals a fresh tour beginning Tour 2 to Texas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Tennessee and Kentucky by air.
Voters in Maine face a national election framed by a liquor commission scandal. Key figures include Governor Frederick G. Payne and Senatorial candidate Roger Dub, with former Chairman Bernard Zahn and PR man Frederick Papolo facing indictments. A charged climate tests public reaction to corruption.
Hayward resident Joseph E. Hollingshead 60 of 478 Maple Court died at home after a brief illness. He served 14 years in Hayward elementary schools teaching music and manual arts, founded a Decoio Canning company with Joseph Pearce, later sold to ALACO Preserving. Survived by wife Mabel, daughter Virginia Clepe Tasho Valley, son Edwin Hollingshead of Salt Lake City, four grandchildren, brother Leslie Hollingshead of Sacramento, sister Mrs Hazel Lewis of Wheatland. Services Wednesday at 2 pm at Garden chapel Pratt-Flier Mortuary under Eucalyptus Lodge 243 P&AM auspices.
