An oncoming collision on Pacheco Pass Friday killed Lyn Snyder and Don Jahies Montgomery, both 21 and from Beverly Hills, and seriously injured Mary Toulse Kaiser 20 of Ontario California amid a wreck involving a truck driven by Andrew J. Railey 33 of Fremont Nebraska. Hugh McArthur 21 of San Diego had minor injuries. The students were en route to Berkeley for the California game.

In Crestview Florida a plumber’s error mixed a gas line into the town water system causing five injuries and three explosions Friday night. Damone said she had asked about press accounts linking him to another woman and became distraught. He reported no attempted self harm. The couple divorced last December and briefly reconciled last summer before splitting again.
In Danby Vermont a fire destroyed a machinery building at a marble quarry shaft entrance. Eight men were trapped two and a half hours in a 1500 foot horizontal tunnel before being rescued unharmed. Air was supplied from the surface via an improvised pipe system as smoke filled the shaft.
Stephen Thomas Lacy, beloved husband of Mattie Lacy and father of several, dies in Fremont. He is a member of Lodge No. 834 Oak and grandfather to several. Funeral services held at MNE Chapel on Pratt Street, Monday, October 21, with officiating Reverend Battin.
