15 Year Old Alleged Attack In Hayward Highlands

A Hayward high school student, after drinking whiskey in a car with 20 year old David Wiliam Howard, was taken home unconscious and treated at Highland hospital. Howard, charged with suspicions of assault and contributing to a juvenile delinquency, denies the attack as investigation continues to clarify conflicting accounts.

Oregon Floods Subside as New Storms Approach Coast

Portland reports two new Pacific storms nearing the coast but forecast desks say no new major threat. Flooding eased in southern Oregon and northern California while 2000 people fled homes. John Hayes to Address Castro Valley Chamber Meeting

Agree in Principle On Bridges Plan For Two New Crossings

The Bay Area Council approved a long range master plan for two new San Francisco East Bay bridges to end the four year battle. Governor Earl Warren praised the plan and urged immediate engineering studies while tolls on the present bridge expire in 1953. The plan envisions a Yerba Buena Island supported crossbay link from San Francisco to Oakland and a South Bay crossing from South San Francisco to San Leandro, costing about 225 million dollars funded partly by tolls.

Ashland man charged with lewd conduct against girl

A 53 year old Ashland resident, Jack Jacquin of 1925 138th Avenue, was arrested at the Hayward sheriff's substation on a lewd and lascivious conduct charge after an 8 year old girl reported molestation. The mother said the child was taken to a store and later said Jacquin asked her to touch him. The mother notified authorities after the girl did not return home in 45 minutes.
