Soviet unmanned Zond 8 heads home for soft landing
The Soviet Zond 8 spacecraft returns from a circum lunar mission heading to Earth for a planned soft landing. Tass said scientists at the Crimean Astrophysical Observatory monitored the craft and data was processed by computers. The mission mirrors earlier Zond flights with atmospheric studies and surface and Earth photography. The program, more open than usual, follows Zond 7 and others and is viewed as a precursor to a manned lunar voyage.
