Above Normal Year Seen For Harvests On State's Farms

California farm production in 1966 is expected to be well above average though not a record. W Ward Henderson of the Crop and Livestock Reporting Service says total output should near last year’s 37.3 million tons. He notes strong markets for cattle sheep eggs and dairy lift cash receipts toward the 1.45 billion record, while field crop yields dip due to reduced acreages for cotton and sugar beets and dry conditions. Officials had estimated total agriculture value near 4 billion, with larger processing vegetable crops harvests and slightly fewer acres than in the prior three years.

The columnist discusses whether the specialist followed rules in allowing the open 3 percent lower, noting that a stop order becomes a market order once triggered and can cause unexpected execution prices.
