A Municipal Court jury found 11 protesters guilty of refusing to disperse unlawful assembly and disturbing the peace from January 23 demonstrations led by the Black Students Union demanding an ethnic studies school. Through two and a half percent of trials, 94 were convicted, 51 acquitted, 12 dismissed, with 244 pleading guilty or contesting.
Hollis M. Dole and the Association of Engineering Geologists urge wider use of terrain, geologic and hydraulic data in planning housing, bridges, roads, and facilities to prevent post disaster losses after earthquakes and landslides.
Federal judge William T. Sweigert urged an appeal after conflicting rulings on residency requirements for draft board members. He said an appeal could clarify the legal situation in the case of Jack Michael Nussbaum of San Francisco, who was convicted for refusing induction, arguing the board member did not reside in the district. The case touches on boards in Maywood Park Illinois and Waukegan Illinois, with other San Francisco judges recently dismissing similar charges. Sweigert encouraged appeals to resolve the dispute.
House Interior Committee chair Wayne Aspinall urged Congress to provide funds to acquire land for Point Reyes National Seashore. He noted a prior authorization, but said $38 million remains needed to buy about 1,000 acres in Marin County. He blamed the Bureau of the Budget for cutting the appropriation from $124 million to $76 million and for not establishing a priority list.

A Cedar Rapids housewife found a note in her milk box from a milk bandit who promised at least enough milk for bread. The thief took several cartons, leaving one, and had been milk-in three blocks since Monday, starting with 14 cartons.
Los Angeles Superior Court action seeks to restrain UCLA philosophy professor Angela Davis from teaching any state campus with or without credit. The suit targets UCLA registrar William Poe and UCLA head of philosophy Jaliab Kalish, alleging Davis was hired to advance Communist Party aims. A spokesman for Kalish denied the charge, calling it absurd and hysterical.
