Dial-a-ride buses debut in two Fremont Newark zones

AC Transit launches Bay Area’s first dial-a-ride service in two trial zones North Centerville Fremont and western Newark. Service runs Sundays 10 am to 6 pm and Saturdays 6 am to 6 pm with weekday hours limited. Fares are 25 cents per ride.

PG&E seeks 145 million rate hike for six months

PG&E requests a 145 million increase in rates for the first half of 1977, blaming drought reduced hydro and higher energy costs. A typical 400 kilowatt hour bill would rise about 1.71 dollars. The utility cites energy cost adjustments allowed by the California Public Utilities Commission and notes imports of low-sulfur fuel oil and Canadian natural gas.

Dain Suspended by Emeryville School Board

Steve Dain of Union City, formerly Doris Richards, suspended by Emeryville school board after a vote. Three trustees voted for, one against, one abstained. Handicapped Fremont boy alive well after five days lost

A visually handicapped Fremont teenager, Matthew Smith, was found alive after five days lost in Lassen Volcanic National Park. A 200-person search team and a National Guard helicopter located him about 2.5 miles from the campground and he was flown to Mercy Hospital in Becking in good condition but dehydrated.
