Four Men Rescued After San Jose Construction Cave‑In
Four workers from P and E Construction were trapped when earth collapsed in a San Jose sewer ditch. Vasquez, 31, was freed after about 15 minutes and taken to Fairmont Hospital. Joseph Flores, 32, and Ar floors, 38, were found beneath six feet of cement debris. Flores was injured but survived. Pimentel, 28, owner of the group, died of asphyxia. Rescue crews freed Whitehead, who crawled out minutes later. Robert J. House, foreman, witnessed the collapse and described re-casing the trench to Sheriff’s deputies. Funeral services for Pimentel were pending.

Baby Found Dead in Crib in Hayward
Five month old Hayward girl Yella Edwards died in her crib after her mother Jessie Edwards 27 of Fairway Street says the infant pulled a plastic liner over her face. An autopsy was ordered by the coroner, and the baby was rushed to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead.
