In San Jose a 11 year old boy was sentenced to life in prison for the hammer and knife rape slaying of Mary Ellen Stackhouse, 30, wife of a Navy man. Judge Raymond G. Callaghan handed down the sentence after a nonjury trial. The youth cannot be sentenced to death due to age. Police described the June killing at Stackhouse's home as she slept with her children nearby.
