Three Killed Seven Injured In Air Crash At Charleston AFB
A giant C 124 Globemaster crashed while trying to land at Charleston AFB South Carolina from Bermuda. Three men were killed seven injured and rushed to U S Naval hospital. The plane from Kelly AFB Texas carried heavy loads of wire and crashed about 200 yards from the civilian terminal. Names of the dead and injured were withheld pending next of kin notification.

Strike Settled at Friden Plant with Pay Boost
About 2200 machinists at Friden Calculating Machine in San Leandro return to work after an eight week strike ended by a two year contract raising wages 1 to 24 cents per hour in year one and seven to 12 cents after June 1957. The Emeryville plant also ended an eight week walkout with similar terms and women to be paid comparably. The deal includes three weeks paid vacation after 15 years, overtime at time and a half, double time weekends, and dependent health benefits. Union officials cited Federal Conciliator Patterson’s role. Friden employs about 2700 workers across its two plants.

Teodora Gonzales a 23 month old girl was killed when a car backed from a Bettencourt road driveway in Newark. The child followed her uncle and aunt as they left the home and was crushed beneath the wheels. She died en route to a Newark physician's office. Office Building Collapse Traps Dozens in Jackson Michigan
A three story office building under construction four miles northwest of Jackson collapsed early this afternoon trapping about 30 of 40 workers.
