McCarthy Defense Outlined by His Attorney
Washington counsel Edward Besnect Williams argued against censure on two counts, saying it would set unwarranted precedents for reproving McCarthy for declining a committee invitation. He contended McCarthy’s cross examination reflected legitimate defense during the 1952 inquiry and noted historical instances of criticism of congressional committees. The Watkins committee plans to reconvene November 1 to debate its report.
