Hong Kong reports the British embassy in Peiping told the United States that prisoner Richard R. Tenneson, 22, Alden Minnesota, will be released by Communist China and cross to Hong Kong today. Observers doubt he appeared. U S officials have limited information beyond Peiping and Hong Kong notices. Tenneson, among 23 who refused repatriation after the Korean War, had long signaled a wish to leave Red China.

Pioneer Hayward businesswoman Mrs Seaver seriously ill

Minnie Seaver owner of Hayward Floral Shop 582 Castra Street is in serious condition at Hayward Hospital after a series of heart attacks starting last Tuesday. She was named Outstanding Woman of the Year by the Hayward BPW club during National Business Women's Week in October and remains active in the Chamber of Commerce and Salvation Army advisory board. Her daughters Leucille Dempsey and Pauline Smith help run the business. her late son Roy Seaver was a former member of the Hayward Union High School board.

Five Preston escapees recaptured by Healdsburg police

Healdsburg police arrested Thomas Salem, 18, after a talk with his father as the last of five Preston School of Industry runaways surrendered this morning near Kone. Earlier, a 16 year old from San Lorenzo and two others were detained in a barn and in a stolen car yesterday and last night.

Knife-Wielder Flees Wrath of Husband

An apparently confused knife wielder tried to rob Ada Fleury and her husband Gules W. Fleury in a Hayward auction house parking lot. Ada grabbed the intruder’s arm, her husband charged from 73 feet away, and the man fled through streets and alleys. Witnesses described him as 20 to 28, five eight, medium build, light complexion, wearing a felt hat and dark navy jacket.
