A San Leandro man Harold Hawkins, 38, suffered head and hip injuries when his car collided with a loaded gravel truck at the intersection of Highway 30 and Santa Rita Road. Hawkins, a brakeman for Southern Pacific, was eastbound on Highway 50. the truck was westbound on Santa Rita Road. The truck driver Edmund Cadwell, 34, of Concord was uninjured. No citation issued pending further investigation.
King Mohamed V of Morocco left Washington with the best wishes of the American government and people. Vice President Nixon saw him off at National Airport and invited a future return. The king planned to spend Thanksgiving Day in Williamsburg before continuing his U S tour.
Bank Manager Joseph Souza resigned from the Newark city planning commission effective immediately. He is the second planner to quit amid a heated debate over relocating the central business district. Commissioner Her Lacey plans to step down when his term ends December 10. Souza cited business obligations and avoided further comment.
A fatal crash on Ignacio Valley road near Walnut Creek left a 19 year old woman named Doris Hicks dead and her escort Charles Raymond Morrison Jr, 22, seriously injured. Morrison could not identify the victim initially. his mother said he had planned to take Hicks to a dance and then a private party. Hicks’ stepfather Harold Harbarth reported she had not returned from a date the previous night.
