Three men linked to a Mull-Million counterfeiting ring were sentenced in San Francisco federal court. Guy J. Smith, 39, Oakland bar operator, drew 10 years. Joseph Memoli, 40, Indianola restaurant operator, got four years as a principal. Frank Maselli, 43, bakery products operator, received six months with 18 suspended and five years probation. Elmer Moore of the Secret Service noted about 75,000 of the four million forged twenty and fifty dollar bills remain outstanding.
In Firebaugh Fresno County a car skidded on a wet street while passing another vehicle. Bertha Robertson 67 of Firebaugh died. The driver Troy Largent 12 also of Firebaugh sustained major injuries.
