78 Year Old Man Struck by Car and Bus
Five people were injured in yesterday’s traffic incidents, including 78 year old Richard Elrich of Castro Valley who was struck on Conlee Street at 5 40 PM and then hit by a following city bus. John Tapia, 26, said the man walked in the roadway wearing dark clothes. Bus driver John Pointer, 39, reported not seeing the man but noting Tapia swerved. Elrich released from Fairmont Hospital in serious condition. Also injured were 10 year old Effie Shoup and 16 year old Pat McCarthy both Castro Valley residents, with Shoup treated after a fall from a car during a U turn. A separate crash on Niles Canyon Road injured Lloyd Eerden, 25 Pleasanton, and two others, George Griffin, 48, Pleasanton, and Clarence Medeiros, 32, Livermore. all treated at Sauusont Hospital and released.
