Stock Swindle Trial Opens For Two Principals In Oakland

Raymond W. Van Deusen and Robert L. Watkins are set to stand trial in Judge Cecil Moasbacher s superior court on eight counts of grand theft one count of attempted grand theft and four counts of securities code violations. The indictment charges swindling 268 people out of 350000 in an uranium scheme. Spurr pleaded guilty to securities act violations and nine counts of grand theft against him were dropped with a nine month county jail sentence. Van Deusen sought a plea with assurance of no jail time but declined when none was offered. Watkins faces one securities code violation count.
