Sixty two miners believed dead in Buffelsfontein blast

In the Buffelsfontein gold mine near Johannesburg a shaft explosion is believed to have killed 62 miners. Rescue teams pulled 29 injured to the surface. A General Mining and Finance Corp spokesman said the blast likely caused by accidental detonation of explosives while workers were sinking a shaft 7400 feet underground. The mine is a major gold and uranium producer. the 1960 Coalbrook disaster remains South Africa’s worst.

Appeals court orders immediate desegregation across Mississippi districts
