The San Francisco area faces a strike sanction request by Pharmacists Union Local 238 after an incident where an unidentified man, Martin, was pinned under a car. A neighbor used a fork-lift to lift the vehicle, enabling his rescue, and the injured man was taken to Levine Hospital for X rays. The petition will be considered by the executive committee of the San Francisco Labor Council on Nov 13.

Alameda County reports building permits totaling $2,999,200 last month, the highest since May. Building Official Marcus Carlson notes October's total up by $238,825 and October 1955 up by $312,859. Single family dwellings reached 158 units valuing $1,688,100. industrial buildings $322,000 and schools $177,850.
A United Press report states an Anglo French naval squadron attacking Port Suez was repelled with losses of two chine pups. Egypt claimed one naval unit and a troop carrier sunk and another unit damaged, as British and French forces faced shore battery and Egyptian naval counterattacks. The dispatch notes UN appeals and an emergency General Assembly session, plus Israeli advances around the Suez area and new Fedayeen actions along the Jordan border.
WILDWOOD. A suspected kidnapper gave authorities new hope that white men who abducted and flogged a Black farm hand may have spared his life. George Altman, 25, signed a statement saying he saw Jesse Woods, 39, alive after he was flogged last Sunday in a secluded spot. Woods had been seized from the town jail where he was held for safekeeping at his request after a drunken charge.
London reports Britain and France rejected a UN plea for an immediate cease fire in the Middle East and said Anglo French military actions against Egypt would continue. Prime Minister Eden said the police action would cease only after UN force acceptance and a UN backed peace settlement plus canal arrangements are secured.
In Los Angeles at UCLA Medical Center surgeons separated Currier twins Nancy Diane and Laura Lee. Nancy Diane survived the operation, while Laura Lee died. The girls, born October 23 in Oxnard to Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Currier, weighed 11 pounds 12 ounces combined.
Secretary of State John Foster Dulles, 68, was operated on for acute appendicitis at Walter Reed Army Hospital after a morning illness. Maj. Gen. Leonard D. Heaton led the operation, the same surgeon who operated on President Eisenhower last June. Dulles remained connected to briefing calls with President Eisenhower and Undersecretary Herbert Hoover Jr. before entering the operating room.
China warned Britain and France that continued aggression against Egypt would lead to grave consequences. The Peiping note, handed to the British chargé d’affaires, called the Anglo French action the most outrageous act in history and demanded halt to attacks and Israeli withdrawal behind the UN armistice line. Western observers noted Peiping’s unusually harsh phrasing.
Hayward police reported a burglary at a tavern on Hesperian Boulevard where a safe containing about 2000 dollars was stolen overnight. The theft was discovered at 8 am by Norman Harda of 181 Via Dolorosa San Lorenzo, who runs the tavern with his brother Edward. Intruders forced the front door and left the empty safe nearby at a service station near Winton Avenue and Hesperian Boulevard.
