Bradley defeats Yorty in runoff to win Los Angeles mayor
Bradley, a Black ex lieutenant turned rookie city official, defeated incumbent Sam Yorty in a Los Angeles mayoral runoff Tuesday to become the city’s third largest mayor. He carried strong support from the West and liberal blocs, finishing with just over 56 percent while Yorty received about 44 percent. Bradley, who moved from Texas at age seven, called the win the fulfillment of a dream as the city eyes a new political era.
