Man Accused Of Trying To Attack Mom To Be
A 32 year old Hayward man Ulmer Leroy Crawford was charged with burglary and attempted rape of a pregnant 19 year old in San Leandro. Police arrested him after he allegedly entered the home at about 5 32 am threatened her with a knife and fled when she screamed. Authorities say the woman and her father chased him to a parked car. A separate report notes a 16 year old was turned over to juvenile authorities after admitting draping his six year old niece at a Hayward home Friday night.

Fire destroys vacant Hayward home suspected arson
Deputies believe an arsonist started the blaze at 2334 Dunn Road in unincorporated Hayward. A fire gallon can with burned rags was found under rear steps. Damage estimated at 8000 dollars. Owner Leonard Jones Jr., 2830 Dunn Road, said the house had stood vacant six months while preparations to rent proceeded. Alameda County Fire Patrol fought the fire for over an hour but could not save the structure.
