Hayward planning commission reviews tract near airport

Hayward planning commission disapproved tract 211 map proposed by San Lorenzo Land Co for 59 lots on Via Melina near Via Mavic in San Lorenzo Village. The site lies in the airport glide path and risks jet interceptor base use, prompting concerns over safety and zoning. A second tract on Williams Street west of Lake Chabot Road in Castro Valley was approved with yard and street-width conditions.

Woman Suffers Shock Amnesia After Road Crash

Violet Johnson, 31, of Walnut Creek is hospitalized at St. Pauls after a Dublin Sunol road crash yesterday. She was a passenger in a car driven by Greta L. Menchaca, 47, of Martinez. Truck driver William Joseph Nunes, 31, of San Jose, also involved. Nunes and passenger Alta Murphy, 32, suffered no injuries.

President Truman vetoed the bill to cede tidelands to the state, saying it ignored national sovereignty and would be a free gift of valuable resources. He argued the measure threatened the rights of the nation and its people.

Charles Fugitt of Castro Valley Dies at 42

Charles V. Fugitt 42 a longtime Castro Valley resident died at his home 18241 Carlton avenue after a long illness. A retired Southern Pacific railroad man, he was husband of Rose B. Burgett and father of Laurace Childs. Funeral rites set for 2:20 p.m. Sunday at Castro Valley Mortuary with interment at Evergreen Memorial Oakland.

Byron W. Clark Dies in Salinas After Long Residence

Byron W. Clark 72, former resident, died last Thursday in Salinas where he had lived 11 years. Funeral rites were held in Piedmont Saturday. He was associated with Union Oil here and is survived by his widow Gertrude of Salinas and daughters Lugille Cook of Livermore and Geraldine Schoennemann of Piedmont.
