Hayward High Senior Drowns At Don Castro Lake
Hayward High School senior Robert Cook Hernandez, 16, of 22967 Maude Ave., Hayward, drowned at Don Castro Lake near Castro Valley. His body was recovered by the Sheriff's Underwater Rescue Unit after an eight hour search, eight hours after he vanished while swimming across an arm of the lake. Richard McBride, 15, learned that Hernandez disappeared after they fished that morning on a small boat near the dam. The lake is closed to fishing and swimming and is fenced with No Trespassing signs.
