Mayaguez rescue ends on Koh Tang Island
U S Marines evacuated the Mayaguez crew from Koh Tang after a three day crisis. The Mayaguez and its 45 crew members were rescued from Cambodian captors with the ship to be towed to Hong Kong. At least one Marine, possibly two, died and many were wounded in the firefight that accompanied the mission.

As a state legislator 806 Norberg Camp Pendleton Fifteenth District Floyd Mori visited refugee tents at Camp Pendleton. He found about 18 600 refugees in good spirits and health despite primitive conditions. He noted instant cities erected since April 28 to accommodate about 25 000 Vietnamese and 1 000 Cambodians arriving from a war torn land seeking equality and a new life in America.
