U.S. seeks Chinese help as Marines on alert over Mayaguez
The Ford administration pressed diplomacy and mobilized 1,000 Marines on Okinawa to prepare for land action to win the release of the American merchant ship Mayaguez and its 39 crew seized by Cambodia. USS Coral Sea and destroyers head toward the area while U.S. aircraft maintain surveillance.
