In frigid fog in the Straits of Mackinac a collision between the U S Steel Cedarville limestone carrier and the Norweg ian freighter Vop dalsfjord left three dead and seven missing. President Johnson told De Gaulle the United States will press ahead with an Atlantic partnership whether France joins or not. He outlined a six point agenda to erode the Iron Curtain, reunify Germany, push European integration, aid underdeveloped nations, strengthen collective defense, and seek a Soviet pact, broadcast across the Atlantic on the Early Bird satellite.
Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Thomas C. Yager revealed two months ago he and his missing bride formed a charitable foundation with combined holdings. He spoke from his apartment as Coast Guard planes continued a fruitless Catalina Channel search for Fileen Kilner-Jeffers, his wife of four days, who disappeared during their honeymoon cruise.

A Crete native, he belonged to Pan-Cretan Society of American Greek Orthodox Church and San Leandro Elks. Burial in Hayward Chapel of the Chimes.
Fremont Department of Community Recreation seeks teen talent for a city wide hootenanny. Auditions May 22 at 7 30 p m at the Community Center Building in Fremont’s Central Park. The event will feature all of the city’s teen clubs and conclude at 8 15 p m in Vallejo Mill Historical Park.
AP report notes fourteen electric typewriters valued at four thousand dollars stolen today from Abraham Lincoln High School in San Francisco. The incident adds to a string of campus thefts and raises questions about school security.
Twelve Northern California high school seniors were named winners in the San Francisco Press Club’s 20th annual journalism competition for high school writers. Best story awards of 200 tied prizes went to Sharon Gaskell of Carlmont High for a sports feature. Jerome Nerney Jr of Ygnacio Valley High for a campus visit story. Lynn Mueller of Salinas High for an interview with migrant workers returning to Mexico. Second and third and fourth place prizes were awarded to a roster of students from San Anselmo, Daly City, San Francisco, Oakland, Albany, Palo Alto, San Carlos, Roseville, and others.
In Berkeley a liberal faction at the University of California failed to gain control in runoff elections. Slate candidates lost to Bob Archibald and John Roberts for two at large seats, while slate backed constitutional amendments were also defeated. A separate AP report from Ivanhoe notes Emmett Charles Strickland, 21, of Visalia, was killed in a freak accident when his car struck a SLATE vehicle on a highway shoulder.
