Judith Elaine Wohl weighing 2 pounds 4 ounces was born March 24 at St. Luke's Hospital in Houston Texas. Her two small teeth have emerged in her second month of life. A hospital spokesman noted that teeth in premature infants are very rare.
Representative Don Edwards visited a temporary jail at RFK Memorial Stadium where about 2,500 antiwar protesters were detained for up to 16 hours. He praised Washington police and the military for maintaining order, said some rights were violated, and stressed Congress’ interest in due process during demonstrations.
Rep. William S. Moorhead denounced the Nixon administration and Lockheed as he argued against a proposed $250 million loan guarantee. He accused Daniel Haughton and his executives of stubbornly using threats of collapse to secure taxpayer money. The administration signaled Congress would consider guarantees next week.
President Nixon praised American farmers for boosting productivity and enriching lives worldwide. He urged farm and congressional leaders to ensure farmers receive a fair share, noting the profit supports programs like a stronger food stamp plan amid a White House salute to agriculture. Representative Barry Goldwater Jr. urged NASA to award Rocketdyne of Canoga Park the space shuttle engines contract. He says the bid would aid Southern California with 160 000 aerospace workers unemployed and boost the local economy. Also reported a Philippine plane crash in Mindanao killing four aboard.
The Labor Department said the April unemployment rate rose to 6.1 percent, with Black unemployment climbing to 10 percent the highest since January 1964 due mainly to fewer jobs for Black women. Whites stayed at 5.6 percent, teens at 17.2 percent. Total employment rose slightly on farm gains, while the wholesale price index hinted at higher living costs.
The Nixon administration requests 34.6 million dollars for next year to fund alcoholism programs. Dr. Mortis E. Chavetz, director of the new National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, warns the sum will fall short of need and notes a mixed public stance toward funding. Senators Hughes and Javits question the commitment while HEW Secretary Elliot Richardson says the effort marks a national push. The budget contrasts with 100 million authorized by Congress and aims to fund community treatment centers and Zone 18 projects with about 200 dollars per project.

Industry leaders including General Motors Ford Chrysler and foreign makers Volkswagen Toyota voiced doubts at an Environmental Protection Agency hearing that current technology can achieve the Clean Air Act targets. The law requires major reductions in hydrocarbons carbon monoxide and nitrogen oxides by 1975 with a possible one year extension for good faith efforts.
John J. O'Brien a 11 year auto claims veteran urged a national no fault system to protect victims. He testified before the Senate Commerce Committee supporting Hart's bill to pay medical and economic losses without proving fault, while critics warn of reduced fault penalties and rising costs.
