Oakland police arrest Robert Burke Jr. for felony hit run and arson in the April 20 death of 87 year old Mary E. Stanton near Fruitvale Avenue. A 1970 Mustang linked to Burke was found burning off Redwood Road. Burke posted $5,000 bail after arraignment. A passenger in the car remains sought.

Kate Webb Freed by Cambodians After Capture
UPI reports Kate Webb, Phnom Penh bureau manager, was freed Saturday after being captured April 7 during a Highway 4 battle. She and six others were missing. one driver-interpreter, Chhim Sirath, also released. Bodies found later led to belief of her death, but she survived and was transported back to Phnom Penh.

SAN FRANCISCO UPI Pacific Telephone and the Communications Workers of America extended their three year pact on Friday to avoid a Friday midnight walkout. The extension can be canceled on 24 hours notice and bargaining continues through the weekend with the Federation of Women Telephone Workers of Southern California and the Order of Repeatermen and Toll Test boardmen. The companies offer three year terms and wage increases this year from 4 to 22 for plant staff and 5 to 14.20 for operators and clerical workers covering more than 44,000 employees in California and Nevada.
