In Jacksonville a mother sweeping under her bed found the 13 year old daughter’s body. Police say the girl was strangled. A search for stepfather Ray H. Daughtry 52 was ordered. Neighbors say he visited earlier and left. The mother, 35, slept on the bed and awoke to the discovery.
Hayward councilmen plan formal approval of 2.5 million in city improvement projects amid a clash over Tennyson Road work. The move follows votes on the 10 million bond program, with homeowners urging sidewalks be added in the first 235 thousand phase while officials say no extra hearings will be held.
Two children of Brooks Church, a Morris Plains chemist for Warner-Lambert, were found murdered and their bodies stuffed in a clothes basket on Tuesday night. The mother and two other children were heavily drugged, apparently by sleeping tablets. The father was being questioned by police as the mother faced hospital treatment.
A student named Scout saved the Lorenzo residence at 1211 Via Esperanza from a late yesterday blaze.
