Barker Jury Deadlocked In Mail Fraud Trial
A seven member San Francisco jury and five men discharged after failing to reach a verdict on Ovida Barker a San Anselmo businessman accused of mail fraud in a six week trial with 24 counts. Jurors reported nine to three for conviction but declared deadlocked forcing re scheduling for April 2. Juror Mrs Considine fainted during deliberations and was revived.

Iranian Premier’s Minister Wounded In Tehran Shooting
The education minister Dr Abdul Hamid Zangandi of Iran’s Razmara government was shot in the side at Tehran University by a member of the Avhith sect linked to the Fidaiyan Islam. A law student was wounded while tackling the gunman Nasratullah Ghomi who claimed his act as punishment for traitors opposing nationalization of oil. The attack occurred during U.S. Assistant Secretary George McGhee’s Tehran visit.

Police Chief George announced an investigation into possible arson after a Saturday fire at the Hayward police station caused about 1000 dollars in damage. A window area and a blower heater room suffered damage. smoke and melted plastic fixtures were noted. Maintenance Men Injured When Bridge Crane Falls
Two Pac ific States Steel plant maintenance men near Niles were injured when a bridge crane broke its boom and fell 40 feet onto the ground. Leonard Stidman of Centerville suffered a broken left arm right wrist and a fractured leg with other injuries. Louis Vandenberg 37 of Hayward also hurt and hospitalized in good condition. Supervisor Louis Cederholm cited a crane boom failure during a bridge lane change as the cause.

Deaths on Highway 50 and multiple Sunday crashes
A 3 month old baby and two women died after a collision on U S Highway 40 near Dublin. James D. Trublood, 34, of Pleasanton, drove into the Wong vehicle rear, pinning the women between cars. Mrs Pearl Wong 40 and Mrs Marethea Wing 48, were killed. The Wong family from Stockton were returning from a wedding in San Francisco. Several other injuries and a motorcycle crash near Hayward left four more people hospitalized. Authorities investigate possible charges against Trublood.
