Irish Parade in New York Honors Costello on Fifth Avenue
About 120000 Irishmen and participants from 218 groups marched six hours up Fifth Avenue in New York, reviewing by Costello the first Irish Prime Minister to do so. Weather was cool. spectators expected two million, with some watching on television. Costello arrived from Washington after presenting Eisenhower with shamrocks and stood at Central Park grandstand with Mayor Warner, Governor Harriman, and Ambassador Hearne. The parade began at 44th Street and ended at dusk, covering 43 blocks with a painted green divider along the avenue.

Early this morning a riot at Andy's drive-in on San Leandro Boulevard left about 50 teens clashing with roughly 80 officers. Four youths named Rosas Carrivo Lemos and Stevenson faced charges of assault riot and disturbing the peace. twelve others were later arrested after refusing to disperse.
