Postpone Vote On Eisenhower Testimony On Foreign Aid Debate

Washington report says the Senate Foreign Relations Committee indefinitely postponed a decision on inviting General Dwight D. Eisenhower to testify on President Truman's 7.9 billion dollar foreign aid program. Chairman Connally noted no date for a vote and indicated other witnesses, including Eisenhower's deputy Gruenther, would be heard first. Lodge and Brewster oppose inviting Eisenhower. a late vote ended 6 to 5 to reconsider and postpone. The final roll showed supporters including McMahon and Framing Green, while opponents included George Fulbright Sparkman and others. Connally did not vote personally, sending Lodge's proxy against the proposal.
