ACWD to Hold Hearings on Pump Tax and Costs in 1963
Alameda County Water District directors voted yesterday to hold public hearings on instituting a pump tax as part of a potential 20 cent property tax increase next year. A 20 cent boost could raise Fremont homeowners’ bills by about $6 annually for a $30,000 home. The plan targets users who pump groundwater off ACWD lines. Whitfield outlined that South Bay Aqueduct adds 569,000 dollars next year to combat saltwater intrusion, with water from the aqueduct not removing but halting intrusion. Additional hearings set by a Monday special meeting. Polls indicated third place in Newark contests with Winters winning the tile title in the city’s recreation division.
