Senators seek release of hostages at Wounded Knee church

Harmony Returns as Glen Eden Association Sees Progress

The Glen Eden Garden Association meeting drew about 75 homeowners and directors for a long night of updates. They reviewed a landscaping resurrection with 75 cubic yards of top soil 2400 pounds of manure and 460 pounds of brass seed plus blocked storm drains and coop efforts using city equipment to improve the neighborhood.

Reds to Free 142 More Prisoners

Saigon reports the Communists announced plans to release 142 prisoners of war on Sunday in Hanoi. Col. Bui Tin said 106 Americans, 268 soldiers, four U.S. civilians, two West German civilians, two Filipinos and others were among those freed. The move followed U.S. pressure and Nixon administration actions in Paris to advance peace talks and ease the Viet Nam ceasefire stalemate.

PG&E seeks rate hike of about 47 cents per month

PG&E asks the California Public Utilities Commission for a 46.8 million dollar rate increase to cover higher costs from California and Canadian gas suppliers. The proposal would raise about 47 cents monthly for Southern Alameda County customers and be spread across all service classes. The hearing will determine approval.

Truant boy tries to burn records at school

An Ane year old boy at Mendenhall School attempted arson to avoid punishment for skipping class. He broke a window and spread flammable liquid, causing 7,000 to 9,000 dollars in damage at 1701 Gl Padre Drive. A custodian reported smoke at 2 10 am and police and fire crews responded.

Welfare reform shelved in Nixon State of the Union
