NEW YORK AP Prince Rainier and Princess Grace of Monaco flew to Europe on separate planes Wednesday night and declined to comment on reports of domestic difficulties. The prince avoided questions about allegedly forcing Grace to return home while her father, John B. Kelly, lay ill in Philadelphia. Grace arrived at Idlewild Airport alone and said she had no time to discuss the matter. The couple had been in Philadelphia for Mr Kelly's funeral, where Grace cared for her father during parts of his illness. Public relations firm Weber says the prince was bound for Paris for business and Grace chose to return directly home.
The Discoverer XII rocket failed to reach orbit and destroyed itself in a flaming plunge into the Pacific atmosphere over Vandenberg AFB California. Air Force teams worked overnight to pinpoint the impact site and determine why the mission did not achieve orbit.
