Viet paratroopers slash Reds flank in Quang Tri drive
U.S. helicopters landed over 1 660 South Vietnamese Marines on the coast east of Quang Tri City as government troops pushed north in Quang Tri Province on the second day of a counteroffensive. Casualties totaled 165 North Vietnamese and six South Vietnamese killed with 4 government troops wounded. Heavy weapons captured prompted speculation North Vietnam is short on manpower. U.S. bombers dropped over 1 500 tons in Quang Tu and 900 tons southwest of Hue.
