Investigators say faulty instruments may have contributed to the June 19 plane crash that seriously injured Sen. Edward M. Kennedy and killed two others. They cautioned that the exact cause is not yet determined after a 10 minute discussion with Kennedy at Conley Dickinson Hospital. Kennedy, immobilized with a broken back, formally filed for re election from his hospital bed.
An American attorney for Mrs Ngo Dinh Nhu sent a telegram to Secretary of State Dean Rusk on Saturday urging reconsideration of the visa denial. The State Department had rejected her application, citing potential harm to public welfare and security, amid her vilifications of Kennedy and Lodge over the coup that killed Ngo Dinh Diem. Mrs Nhu resides in Paris.
Siouxlnd Ser jtoma Club members staged a topless bathing suit gag at a Friday lunch to boost luncheon attendance. Only club member Irv Nogg wore swim trunks and a wig as three bathing beauties posed with him. Club officials admitted the stunt was a joke.
Washington AP reports prayer in schools ranks among top issues for Republicans shaping the party platform. Rep. Charles F. Goodell notes witnesses will discuss the subject during sessions in San Francisco starting July 6, alongside topics like natural resources civil rights and national security. The panel may address the Supreme Court era school prayer rulings and Becker’s proposed constitutional amendment nullifying them.
The NAACP urged Republicans to repudiate Barry Goldwater and deny him the nomination. A 3 000 member delegates resolution condemned his civil rights vote as self serving and feared appeals to bigotry. Scranton and Rockefeller predicted Goldwater would fail to win on the first ballot.

Nelson W. Windish 31 a sailor based at the Long Beach Naval Station died from a bullet wound Friday after police say he exchanged 11 shots with officers last Sunday near Scranton. Local officers said they will continue to pursue the case as they search for those responsible.
