Budget Shortlist for Hayward Budget Breaks Ground
Hayward considers a modest property tax reduction in the 1987-58 budget session, with an estimated valuation rise to 60.09 million and a tax rate likely remaining at 1.61 per 100. Three key budget points include a 6 percent salary rise for municipal staff, a $10,000 line for holiday pay for police and fire, and a formal salary negotiation process through administrative channels. Council members also call for a job study prior to the 1958-59 budget time and address channels to prevent employee appeals bypassing administration. Next work session is 4 pm Monday.
