Carlos Bee Votes No On Measure In City Budget

The city council adopted a 1952 53 operating budget at a special meeting. The budget reflects an increase over the prior year and its effect on the tax rate will be known after the county assessment in late July. Mayor John Many and Councilman Art Phillips supported the measure while Councilman Carlos Bee dissented. Bee warned the tax rate could rise by up to 28 cents without higher valuations and argued property tax loads are too heavy. The budget funds general city services, water, police, fire, and parks, with additions for lights and maintenance, and includes a $11,950 purchase of the Frieda Oakes property for off street parking.
