BART interest payments okayed by Senate committee
The Bay Area Rapid Transit District would receive 4 million dollars in interest from the state under a bill endorsed by the Senate Public Works Committee on a 7 to 3 vote. Sponsor Sen. John Nejedly of Walnut Creek said the measure mirrors interest earned by the state on 35 million dollars used for highway relocation to BART tracks. Opponents warned it could set a precedent for renegotiating state contracts with other agencies.
