Good Times Ahead for Economy, say Bankers and Execs
A nationwide UPI survey found bankers, corporate chiefs, and economists optimistic about the U.S. economy entering a strong second half. Reports cite rising personal income, car sales records, and growing industrial output, though inflation and unemployment remain key concerns for households and some business leaders.
The GSA and Federal Spending Waste of the 1960s and 70s
A Washington economist criticizes Great Society and GSA practices that funded wide federal grants and bought for recipients. He argues hundreds of programs inflated inflation, burdened taxpayers, and raised private costs by favoring government purchasing and free dollars over private efficiency.

Mutual funds yield to banks as big trades take hold
Mutual funds and other institutional investors have ceded market influence to banks in large stock transactions as negotiated commissions reshape broker revenues. In early 1972 funds accounted for 25 percent of big-block commissions while banks supplied nearly 40 percent, a reversal from late 1971. The NYSE and brokers adjust to lower negotiated rates, with about 12 to 13 cents per share for big orders over 300 000, while small orders of 100 shares cost around 3 cents per share.
