Weather satellite launch plans loom for hurricane forecasting
CAPE KENNEDY Fla APS The hurricane hunting Tiros satellite is set for launch next Tuesday as a step toward an operational space weather forecasting system. The first nine Tiros, funded by the US Weather Bureau, were successful with NASA backing. The 49 minute launch window begins at 1 07 EST Tuesday with sun powered energy as the craft aims to cover the hurricane season through October 15.
