Three San Lorenzo Boys Win Scholarships
Three San Lorenzo boys, graduates of Hayward Union High School, received scholarships for scholastic merit. Robert Edwards 17 won a $300 University of California scholarship studying psychology and public administration, plus a $500 American Federation of Labor award. Daniel L. Miller 18 earned a $1000 Freshmen’s scholarship to Williams College, with leadership roles and other honors. Allen K. Wolverton 17 gained two awards including a Bank of America mathematics prize and a honorary alumni scholarship, planning to study electrical engineering.

Louis Stores Give Away Glamour in Miniature Dresses
Louis Stores will give away four Glamour in Miniature dresses by Marjorie Davey of Pasadena at San Lorenzo Village, Washington Shopping Center in San Lorenzo, Castro Valley, and Haymont Shopping Center this Saturday afternoon. A Kiddies Fashion Show at 1 p.m. in San Lorenzo Village will feature the dresses with Henry Gonsalves, Johnny Horton, Bob Lund, and Dale Wights as entertainers. Bees installed the first air conditioning system by ventilating hives through wing-fanning at the entrances.

Sacramento. A proposal by Assemblyman Richard J. Dolwig to accelerate highway construction via revenue bonds backed by future gas taxes is dead for this session. Senate finance committee sent the bill to an interim two year study. Mailley Named Head of Alacosta Legion
Theo Maillet Trayward was named head of the Alacosta Legion of the Moose with Charles Becker of the local organization taking one of four top offices. The Alacosta Legion comprises Moose lodges in signees and Contra Costa counties. Thomas B. Herrick received a diamond fifty club pen for enrolling 50 members in the Hayward lodge, and Andy F. A strong quake last night shook Fullerton and Brew, causing minor damage at a fire department office and no reports of major injuries. The tremor disrupted southern California briefly as residents awaited official updates.
