Medi Cal Cost Sharing Move Clears Senate
SACRAMENTO reported the Senate backed a bill by Sen. John L. Harmer to require Medi Cal recipients with more than 20 in personal property to cover up to 20 percent of costs. The measure passed 21 to 16 and heads to the Assembly, with Democrats opposing and Republicans supporting the plan. A companion HRW regulation change was approved. Harmer argued it would curb Medi Cal overuse amid rising costs. Sen. Stephen Deale blamed physician shortages for high costs.
