Carpenters Local 1622 AFL plan a referendum vote tonight at Hayward High School on a proposed three year agreement with eight contractors' associations. About 4000 carpenters in San Francisco, San Mateo, Alameda and Marin counties are covered. Final results from all Bay Area locals will be released after Wednesday's ballot deadline. The proposal calls for wage raises of 10 cents per hour July 15, seven and a half cents July 16, and seven and a half cents July 15, 1862. The union originally sought a 27.4 cent hourly increase. The agreement includes no wage arbitration or closed shop provisions.

Stockton Man Dies In Livermore Pass Car Wreck
Samuel E. McColly, 66, of Stockton, died when his car veered off Livermore pass highway and plunged 200 feet Saturday afternoon. He was thrown from the vehicle, which rolled over him before coming to rest. He died on arrival at St. Paul’s hospital in Livermore and was taken to Calaghan’s mortuary.
