SF Rights Trials To Continue In Municipal Court
SAN FRANCISCO AP The federal judge refused to halt the civil rights trial of a defendant in municipal court after defense lawyers charged Negroes were being excluded from jury duty. District Judge William Sweigert said the remedy lies in appeal to state courts. Civil rights attorney Aubrey Grossman said Negroes were removed from juries under a systematic plan by the district attorney. Sweigert noted trial can be removed to federal court only if state law is defective and deprives a defendant of civil rights.
