Mariner 5 On Truer Venus Path
Pasadena AP reports Mariner 5 locked on Canopus to steer toward Venus on a 212 million mile flight. The 540 pound craft launched from Cape Kennedy and initially latched onto Earth’s glare before aligning with Canopus as California tracking stations directed. Amidcourse correction aims for a 2000 mile Venus pass by Oct. 19 as the Soviet Venus probe launches two days earlier.
