SACRAMENTO UPI Assemblyman Joseph C. Shell faces GOP opposition as a group of Republican lawmakers plan to seek his removal as minority floor leader. The move follows Shell's refusal to endorse Richard Nixon for governor and his stance after a 24 year party defeat, with a special session set for June 26.

New York AP report says investigations by the Securities and Exchange Commission and the district attorney target Gilbert of Bruce Inc as officials pursue all aspects of his alleged misdeeds. Gilbert left the country for Rio de Janeiro after resigning as Bruce president. Officials say they have not ruled out extradition and are examining check documents and ledgers. Bruce’s successor E J Bruce Jr asserts the frauds probe may involve Celotex stock interests and a potential merger goal with Celotex Corp.
