In San Francisco a high school dance erupted into a riot at 625 Polk Street. Police say 12 teens were arrested and to appear at Youth Guidance center Friday for hearings as 150 to 175 youths gathered in the auditorium. Los Angeles police halted a lightless car at night and found two yawning lions on the seat beside driver John P. Shinners 22. Shinners and the furry companion drew citations for operating a lightless car and driving without a license as the car’s noise outshone the animals.

Masked Bandit Robs Bank and Holds Couple Hostage

A lone robber abducted bank president John A. Whalen and his wife in Indianapolis, forcing them to drive to Southport State Bank. He robbed the vault of about 60,000 to 65,000, released six female employees and one cashier, and left a masked scene before escaping. The bank vault was unlocked by the time lock, and 500 dollars was returned to the cashier. The incident lasted six and a half hours with the bandit displaying calm behavior.

Tomlinson Desertion Charged In Divorce Suit

Hayward contractor Hartzell J. Tomlinson, 46, named in a divorce action by Mrs. Leona Tomlinson of Russell Road Hayward alleging he married Iva Jane Swanson and abandoned his wife and two children. The suit seeks custody of two daughters and support, plus court costs and attorney’s fees. A restraining order was requested to halt joint finances. The case notes prior marriage in Iowa and separation since 1958 with disputed claims of marriage to Mrs. Swanson. A hearing for temporary alimony and support was set for June 21.

Escape of 37 year old prisoner reported by sheriff

A 37 year old prisoner confined at Sante-Rita prison farm escaped near today after being taken to Arroyo Hospital for tuberculosis treatment. Wayne McCaw, 27, has prior escape records from Dixon prison hospital and Los Angeles police. He was serving a 180 day term and wore prison clothing, five feet seven inches tall, 160 pounds, brown hair and eyes.
