Lockheed rescue fight tests Congress and board
Lockheed Aircraft Corp chairman Daniel J. Haughton warned Congress that without government aid the company would go bankrupt. He urged passage of a Nixon administration plan to guarantee 250 million in bank loans, saying failure would reduce defense and aviation competition, risk 44,000 Tristar jobs, and harm the U.S. economy. Senator Cranston proposes removing Haughton and 13 directors as a condition for approval.

Supreme Court bars insurers from tricking claimants in work injury cases
The California Supreme Court ruled that insurers may not get claimants drunk or entice them into activities to influence Workmen's Compensation outcomes. In the Redner case Hartford and an investigative company deceived the claimant, inviting him to a party where alcohol was served and a private ride led to hospitalization. The board had denied benefits citing the film evidence, but the court unanimously reversed, saying compensation seekers cannot be induced to perform acts they wouldn’t have done otherwise for a hidden camera.
