SLA roots traced in prison ties and small size
California prison chief Raymond Procunier cites small SLA membership as the reason for its concealment, estimating about 17 members including long‑time convicts. He notes roots at Vacaville and the Black Cultural Association, naming DeFreeze and other inmates tied to the group and to the Foster case, with several later dead or jailed.
